Take my e-ddiction quiz

They say if you think you might have a technology problem, you probably do. I thought maybe I could help you help me, or help you help you, by sharing my own version of an e-ddiction quiz. If you are brave enough to admit you have a problem, you are already on the road to recovery.
.
The E-ddiction Quiz

1. Do you lose time from work due to Facebook, Twitter, or incessant blog comments?

2. Is your Crackberry making your home life unhappy? *It’s a ‘crackberry’ if you sleep with it under your pillow….or take it with you to the bathroom….I’m just sayin….

3. Do you text, tweet and FB because you are shy with other people?

4. Is technology affecting your reputation? Do people make jokes about your ‘problem’?

5. Have you ever had technology remorse? Texted too quickly, shot off an email that you shouldn’t, wished you could untweet?

6. Have you had financial difficulties due to the lure of new technology? Do you forgo real experiences so that you can support your ipad, iphone, itouch, itext, itweet, or whatever else you *need* to have?

7. Does your technology love make you careless of your family’s welfare? (no, no, I’ve never left one of my kids strapped in the car while I quickly checked my email….)

8. Do you crave your technology of choice at a definite time daily?

9. Do you want your technology first thing in the morning?

10. Does your technology help you escape from worries, trouble, or the tedium of regular life?

I adapted these questions straight from an alcohol screening assessment. And it appears that I have a little problem. So…I’m going cold turkey.

Headed to vacation this week with my family, and I’m going for a complete technology blackout. Let me confess that I have never successfully gone even a day without checking my email in the last three years. But with this screening intervention and the loving support of my family and friends, I hope that this rehab period will bring me back into a healthy relationship with my inbox, blog, FB and Twitter.

I am only in the precontemplative stage of change, meaning, I’m thinking about the idea of changing even if I’m not really interested in changing or really think I have a problem or really want to give up my connection to my social media world or really think blogging’s all that bad or believe the merits of social media far outweigh the drawbacks….

before I change my mind I’d better shut it down. See you all in a week. I’m sure I’ll be bursting with bloggerrific thoughts by then. Peace….
